Erol will be speaking on recent successful applications of Bender Element sensor technology to quantify effectiveness of geosynthetics in stabilization with a spin on railway ballast/sub-ballast application.
Meet the Speakers
Erol Tutumluer Ph.D., M.S., B.S. holds a B.S. (Bogazici University 1989), two M.S. degrees (Duke University 1991 and Georgia Tech 1993), and a Ph.D. (Georgia Tech 1995), all in civil engineering. He has been on the faculty of the department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Illinois since 1996. Dr. Tutumluer was recognized as Paul F. Kent Endowed Faculty Scholar in 2006 and as Abel Bliss Professor in Engineering in 2020 for his research and scholarly accomplishments in the CEE department. Professor Tutumluer also serves as the Director of International and ZJUI Education Programs for the department.
Since he started as a faculty member at UIUC in 1996, Dr. Tutumluer has served as an investigator on over 125 research projects and graduated 27 PhD and 47 MS students and authored/co-authored over 400 peer reviewed publications from his research projects
Isabel Perez is a Product Manager of Subgrade Improvement at Terrafix Geosynthetics Inc., which is a role that gives her the opportunity to be involved in the design stage up to project completion. Remarkable contributions of her role: deliver Value Engineering designs, address site challenges, and provide technical assistance, tests, and site visits, delivered more than 150 designs and involved in multiple projects in Canada. She graduated from URBE University in Venezuela in 2006 as an Industrial Engineer. She has worked for more than 16 years in civil engineering, supporting a wide variety of infrastructural projects in Venezuela, Spain, and Canada.
Organization, determination, and motivation are her core assets. She is passionate about finding innovative solutions and understand how we can boost collaboration within the transportation and construction industry.
